      In case of Amazon you can sell products like books without GST but for other goods that are not exempted by government will need GST. Other than books, plastic bags, and certain handicraft goods can be sold without GST.

      Similar to Amazon, only exempt items are eligible for GST exemption when sold online.

      GST on ecommerce sellers:

      Sellers are divided into three following categories on the basis of GST applicability:

      Selling goods: sellers who are selling goods are needed to get registered under GST. In simple words, sellers must have GSTIN before registering for starting their e-commerce business. 

      Selling of services other than mentioned in section 9(5):

      Only if their sale exceeds the threshold level of 20/10 lakh then such vendors obligated to register and collect GST. If they aren’t registered, they aren’t responsible for GST on any transactions made through an e-commerce operator.

      (The government may identify the kinds of services for which an e-commerce operator is obliged to collect and pay GST as if the e-commerce operator were providing the service, according to Section 9(5). All of the provisions will apply to such an e-commerce operator, not to the individuals who offer services via him.)

      Selling services mentioned in section 9(5):

      Even if their sale exceeds the threshold limit, such vendors are not required to register for GST.

      A person who sells products or services through an e-commerce operator is ineligible to register under the composition system. He merely has to register under the standard system.

      If you are not registered for GST, as you are under the $75,000 threshold, you do not have to charge GST. However, if you do backdate your registration to when you did not charge GST you will have to pay the ATO the amount you would have collected in GST at the time as if you did charge GST.
